6 Fun Reasons to Spend Easter on the South Carolina Coast

Ready to climb out of a gloomy winter and celebrate spring? The Hammock Coast welcomes the season like a breath of fresh air, and Easter makes a fantastic time for a getaway. This year, Easter lands on April 12, so make your plans now to visit. In case you need an incentive, we’ve got a few.

Soak up the Sun

First up is basking in the sunshine. With daily highs in the mid-70s, mid-April is an excellent time for sunbathing. Experts tell us that sunlight lifts the spirits, provides much-needed Vitamin D, and helps with sleeping. Having the sun on your face is a wonderful feeling. Right?

Get Outside

Spring is the season when nature comes to life. Birds sing, flowers burst with color and new life surrounds us. Fortunately, the Hammock Coast offers an array of opportunities to get outside and appreciate nature. Take a kayak tour through a salt marsh with Black River Outdoors. Surf the Earth on Pawleys Island also gets you out on the water with kayaks, paddle boards and surfboard rentals and tours. Of course, the gorgeous Brookgreen Gardens is spectacular at Easter.

Join the Hunt

Get in on Easter festivities with various activities along the coast set April 11. At 10 a.m., an Easter Egg Hunt is set at Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys Island. Don’t be late. Hunts are divided by age, and the Easter Bunny is scheduled to make an appearance.

Grab an Easter bonnet and join in the Easter Parade in Georgetown, which begins at 11 a.m. at the town clock. Participants march along the boardwalk to the Kaminski House Museum. At about 11:30 a.m., the Easter Bunny gives the signal and the Easter egg hunt begins. It’s fast and furious and ends in about 10 minutes. Baskets are awarded to children who find the four golden eggs.

If you sleep in, head to nearby Surfside Beach where the Easter Egg Hunt and Kid’s Far is from 1-4 p.m. at the Huckabee Complex.

Chow Down on Coastal Cuisine

Brunch is a long-standing Sunday tradition and even more so on Easter. Hit up the Dead Dog Saloon at the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet. Indulge in pancakes, French toast or a coast favorite, shrimp and grits. The Rustic Table on Pawleys Island offers a lavish array of brunch dishes, including chicken and waffles, a gooey Monte Cristo sandwich served with breakfast potatoes and several salads, sandwiches and appetizers. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Be sure to call for reservations as holidays get busy.

Get Your Toes in the Sand

Of course, visiting the Hammock Coast means getting in quality beach time. That’s easy to do from an oceanfront luxury home like Double Heaven, which sits just steps from the Atlantic and has a private pool and club amenities. This one will sleep your extended family with six bedrooms and 6.5 baths. Looking for something a little smaller? Stay at Happy Days, a four-bedroom villa with a deck that overlooks the ocean.
