Can’t-Miss Summer Events on the Hammock Coast

The rocket’s red flare may have died down after the Fourth of July, but that does not mean the end of the summer season. There are still plenty of activities to keep you and your family busy during your Pawleys Island or Litchfield Beach vacation

See the magic of Summer Light: Art By Night at Brookgreen Gardens, which opens at 6 p.m. each Wednesday and Saturday through Aug. 13. Ten lighting installations throughout the sculpture garden feature a variety of lighting techniques. From the 800 upcycled chandeliers and 900 wine bottle alcoves, experience Oak Allee and Beyond the Garden Wall like never before. “Summer Light: Art by Night” allows visitors to stroll the gardens in a new light. Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for children.

Stretch your body and mind with Yoga on the Beach, hosted by Inner Connections. Sessions are held at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and 6 p.m. on Thursdays at the south end of Pawleys Island. Cost is $10 per person.

Enjoy a Piano Picnic each Monday at the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library in Pawleys Island. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy live piano music from noon to 1 p.m.

Local Eat, Drink, Celebrate at The Hammock Shops Village holds Sunday brunch from noon to 3 p.m. On July 10, Oracle Blue performs on neo-soul and R&B on July 10; Blues Brunch with Craig Keefer takes the stage on July 17; Blues Brunch with Jeff Thomas headlines on July 24; Blues Brunch with Doc Simons on July 31; and on Aug. 6, it’s the Hip Hop Brunch. Be sure to reserve your spot.

Huntington Beach State Park offers a full slate of weekly activities; on Tuesdays, get a two-hour guided kayak tour of the salt marsh, go seining or take an historic tour of Atalaya Castle. On Wednesdays, it’s time for crabbing or Turtles’ Time Out; Fridays feature a session observing alligators in their natural habitat, sea turtles, and an Atalaya Ghost Tour. See the full lineup here

Of course, it’s also fun to sip a home-mixed cocktail on a private deck at your Pawleys Island property. Stay busy or kick back. You have choices here.
