Gather your family this holiday season and be merry with a vacation to the South Carolina coast. Our charming communities get all decked out for the most wonderful time of the year.
Celebrate a Magical Hammock Coast Christmas
If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, our beautiful beaches are just the ticket. In fact, Pawleys Island has the largest free public beach access lot in Georgetown County. In addition, there are eight other public access points on the island. Beachfront properties like our five-bedroom/three-bath Lucky Bag or the four-bedroom Sunset Lodge put you steps from white sand beaches and the Atlantic Ocean.
If your celebration starts the first weekend in December, kick things off at the Town Carol Sing, 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the Pawleys Pavilion Park.
Then, from 4-9 p.m. on Dec. 4 roll with the Candyland Christmas Kringle Krawl, which hits several bars and restaurants along Front Street in Georgetown, just 12 miles from your Pawleys Island vacation rental.
Also that weekend, stroll through the Festival of Trees! that runs through Sunday, Dec. 5 at The Hammock Shops Village on Pawleys Island. Beautifully decorated table top trees available in a silent auction can be seen throughout the Village. The magical event, which includes a Santa Express Train and live entertainment, serves a fundraiser for Tidelands Community Hospice.
Of course, what would Christmas be without some of the area’s favorite traditions at Brookgreen Gardens. Treasured Holiday Memories features trains, trees, toys and memories of Christmas past. Trains and toys from the Victorian era through the 1980s are on display, along with miniature, lighted houses in a myriad of themes, from Dickens to the North Pole. The display is in the Rosen Gallery 2&3, and is included with daytime Garden admission.
Visit during Nights of a Thousand Candles, and all those trains will be running around the tracks. Brookgreen Gardens lights up with Nights of a Thousand Lights, which starts Nov. 26 and runs through Jan. 2. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 4-12. More than 2,800 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights decorate the garden pathways from 4-9 p.m. Hear holiday music, carolers and see the “Lighting of the Trees” each evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Leonard Pavilion.
On Dec. 10-11, catch Holiday Magic at the Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown. The Holiday Market begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. Light Up the Lawn follows at 5:30 p.m., then the Holiday Market resumes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.
The Surfside Beach Christmas Parade rolls at 2 p.m. on Dec. 11, just up the road from Pawleys Island. The Parade features more than 100 floats, marching bands and other entries, and of course, Santa Claus!
Many locally-owned Pawleys Island restaurants offer special holiday menus, as well as delicious meal available for pickup. Chive Blossom Restaurant & Bar will wow you with their twist on Lowcountry classics. The Rustic Table, Bistro 217, Caffe Piccolo and Frank’s Restaurant & Bar are other local favorites that make any occasion special.
