Memorial Day weekend marks the official start of the summer season, and we’re here for it! After the past few months, who isn’t ready for some beach time? Get your season started with a visit to the Hammock Coast.
Memorial Day Weekend on the Hammock Coast
The first step is to book your stay in a beautiful home with everything you need for a comfortable vacation. We have oceanfront rentals, homes with private pools, and condos on the golf course.
Of course, you will spend time on the beach, but there are several holiday events to enjoy during your stay as well.
The Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament May 24-27 hosts 60-70 boats vying for the top prize. Anglers can register for the event, but if you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, see the catch at Georgetown Landing Marina, 432 Marina Drive.
Sign up for the 10th Brookgreen Gardens Memorial Day 5K, which takes place from 6-8 p.m. on May 28. N.S. Promos and Black Dog Running Company partners with Brookgreen Gardens for the event, which includes complimentary entry at a later date to the 9,100-acre property, along with a T-shirt and other swag expected at a running event.
The Town of Pawleys Island traditionally holds a Weekend Neighborhood Summer Kickoff from 5-8 p.m. on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Check the town’s website for updates.
The annual Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade starts rolling at 10 a.m. on May 29. Lineup begins in the 13th Avenue South parking lot. Then the golf carts parade up Ocean Boulevard from 13th Avenue South to 16th Avenue North. If you want to participate, decorate a cart and register at 9 a.m.
While it’s easy to get caught up in cookouts and beach fun, it’s also important to remember why we celebrate the day - to honor our fallen servicemen and women. More than 1.1 million Americans have died in all U.S. wars combined.
The American Legion Post 178 in Murrells Inlet will host the The Traveling Wall, a replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. The free exhibit is open to the public from May 25-29.
Another way to honor our fallen is to attend a Memorial Day Service. The American Legion Post also holds a Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m., while Surfside Beach has a service set at 2 p.m. on May 29 at Memorial Park at Surfside Drive and North Willow Drive.
Get your summer started with a true-blue Hammock Coast holiday.
