The summer may be coming to an end, but we’re not quite there yet. There is still time for one last holiday trip to the Hammock Coast. With Labor Day just around the corner on Sept. 6, why not take advantage of the long weekend and plan a beach getaway? Keep on summering with us!

Music, Food and Fun
Enjoy a great time with cool sounds and delicious fare at Downtown Pawleys Live, set noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5. It’s an art, music and food festival that lasts all afternoon. Music starts at noon with The Abnormals, and continues with If Birds Could Fly, 20 Ride, then closes with Painted Man. Gates open at 11 a.m., admission is $20. Vendors and food trucks will be on-site all day.
A First-ever Event
Runners can work off some of the holiday “extras” on Sunday during the Inaugural Brookgreen Gardens Labor Day 5K set for 6 p.m. Brookgreen Gardens is a sculpture garden and wildlife preserve located just south of Murrells Inlet.
Oysters
September is traditionally the first month of “oyster season.” An adage states that shellfish should only be eaten during months with an “R,” so September through April. While we eat them all year-round now, you can still celebrate the season by savoring oysters during your Labor Day stay. Nance’s Creekfront Restaurant & Oyster Roast in Murrells Inlet is a go-to for fresh, tasty oysters, served on the half-shell or steamed. The menu at Pawleys Raw Bar includes Apalachicola oysters, revered for their sweet flavor.
September Shopping
Browse the boutiques and specialty stores at The Hammock Shops Village on U.S. 17 in Pawleys Island. It’s a mix of history, shopping, and dining you can explore in one place. You may catch a hammock weaving or sweetgrass basket-making demonstration. Or take in an international wine tasting. The kids can romp around the playground, then enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants.
River Cruises
Plantation River Tours offers scenic boat tours on Lowcountry rivers. Reserve a spot on a Plantation or Sunset Tour. Then climb aboard at Wacca Wache Marina in Murrells Inlet for a river adventure. Blue Wave Adventures Dolphin Tours out of the Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet gives your family an epic and memorable experience.
Art on Display
The Wild Bees photography exhibit is on display through Sept. 30 at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. Wild Bees is a stunning collection of macro photos that depict the daily world of America’s native bees. The Gardens also has the 14th African American Fiber Art Exhibition, showcasing 27 pieces by 23 artists from around the country.
There are plenty of other reasons to visit this Labor Day, but you already know about the Atlantic Ocean, beaches, and delicious seafood.
