6 Ways to Have a Firecracker of a Fourth on the Hammock Coast

As America marks its 246th birthday this Independence Day, make it one of the books. Our country celebrated its first birthday with bonfires and bells. Today, we continue the tradition with parades, concerts, family get-togethers and fireworks that light up the sky.

Beaches make a favorite destination for our Fourth of July celebrations, and the Hammock Coast is no exception, with plenty to do and awesome accommodations. Ice down the watermelon, slap on the sunscreen and get set for an All-American celebration this year.

As for celebrations, check out six of our favorites.

An Independence Day Service is set at Pawleys Island Chapel at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 3. The service features the Pawleys Island Concert Band during morning worship.

The Pawleys Island Fourth of July Parade rolls at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4. Create your own float by decorating a golf cart, car, boat, or truck bed. The cost to enter the parade is $20 in advance or $25 the day of the event. Entries receive prizes in several categories, including Best Children’s, Most Enthusiastic and Most Patriotic. Register you float at Pawleys Island Town Hall. Of course, it’s free to grab a spot along the route and watch the parade!

The 39th Murrells Inlet Boat Parade sails at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4 at the point in Garden Beach making its way to Murrells Inlet. Best places to view the parade include the Marshwalk, Belin United Methodist Church and Morse Park Landing.

Set up at your favorite beach spot for the 1 p.m. Salute from the Shore military flyover. This annual event creates a unique opportunity for families to salute the armed forces while celebrating Independence Day. Where red, white, and blue attire, wave flags and hold up banners to honor the military.

The Pawleys Island Concert Band performs a free concert later at 5 p.m. on July 4 at the Precious Blood of Christ Roman Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Road.

Fireworks are the main attraction of any Fourth of July celebration, and the Hammock Coast has several spots to watch the colorful displays. Murrells Inlet MarshWalk fireworks start at 10 p.m., shot from the end of Veterans Pier. View the show at the MarshWalk and Belin Methodist Church. In Georgetown, the display begins at 9:30 p.m. from East Bay Park.

Or you can choose to sit on your rental property deck, enjoy that watermelon and fire up the grill.
