Coolest Places to Visit on the Hammock Coast

There are plenty of ways to beat the heat during your Hammock Coast vacation.

The Pool

One of the best spots to cool off is the pool. More than 100 TideLife properties have a community pool as an amenity, so make a splash. True Blue condos provide access to four pools on site. Pawleys Plantation properties also include access to pools, and guests in our Avian Forest properties have access to the amenities at Litchfield By the Sea, including pools and a lazy river.

The Beach

Of course, the beach is another first-rate place to cool off. Splashing in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean is sure to do it. Here’s a tip: Fill water balloons with water and freeze them. You can use them to keep your drinks cool in your ice chest. When the ice melts, let the kids play. Just be sure to pick up your debris as it is hazardous to wildlife.

The Stores

Once upon a time, establishments boasted when they had Air Conditioning inside. Now they all have A/C, so make that work for you. Duck inside one of the many locally-owned stores, such as Whitmire Fine Jewelry in Pawleys Island, to grab some A/C. You’ll find Whitmire at The Hammock Shops Village, where visitors discover an eclectic selection of boutiques and specialty stores.

The Museums

Take a break from the heat with a visit to a Georgetown museum. The Gullah Museum of Georgetown offers a one-room but in-depth look at the Gullah Geechee history of the area. The South Carolina Nautical Museum showcases model ships, artifacts discovered on shipwrecks, and even fossils of sea creatures. The Rice Museum, located in the Old Market Building, displays a permanent collection of dioramas, maps, paintings, artifacts, and other displays that tell the history of rice cultivation in the region.

Dine Out

Step into one of the many local restaurants for a break from the heat, and an ice-cold drink. Frank’s is a favorite, with four dining venues and four bars in one location. The Chive Blossom Restaurant & Bar is another cool spot to chill out.

You can always kick back at your vacation rental, turn down the AC, and enjoy the view. Head out to the creek for fishing or crabbing in the early mornings or late afternoons when those temps cool down.
