Light it Up
Kick off the holiday season when the city of Pawleys Island lights its Christmas tree on Saturday, Nov. 25. The event includes carols and a visit from Santa. The MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet also has a free wonderland of lights and festive decorations starting Nov. 25.
See the Garden Glow
For more lights (and we mean a lot more), head to Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. As one of the most beloved holiday traditions in the region, Nights of a Thousand Candles features more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of sparkling lights illuminating the gardens. From 4-9 p.m. starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, visitors can walk the lighted path to the sounds of holiday music. Tickets are $17 for children/$35 for adults (nonmembers).
Shop Small
Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet offer specialty boutiques and locally-owned shops where you can find unique gifts for those on your Christmas list. Start with the almost two dozen stores at The Hammock Shops Village, 10880 Ocean Highway, which has operated on Pawleys Island since 1938. Shops offer island apparel, gourmet food items, jewelry, locally made candles, wine, and more. Then head to the Island Shops shopping center, 10659 Ocean Highway, a collection of shops, galleries, jewelry stores, and more.
